Summary
Save the Children is currently recruiting for a National Early Childhood Development (ECD) Advisor, based in Mozambique, who will be responsible for supporting the design and implementation of the ECD projects in country focused on scaling up evidence-based models as well as working with staff in other technical sectors to capitalize on potential synergies and consolidate holistic education models. The Advisor, reporting directly to the Country Office leadership, will manage and mentor the ECD Program Managers, the M&E Officers and coordinate with the Provincial Office Managers and finance staff to ensure the effective implementation and oversight of budgets specifically allocated for ECD programming.
Responsibilities
Critical for success in this role is the ability to build staff capacity for program activities, ensure that monitoring and evaluation mechanisms are in place to improve and measure its direct impact, represent Save the Children in national forums and share best practices regarding Save the Children’s experiences in community-based preschool education projects. The Advisor will also be responsible for coordinating the preparation of timely reports to donors and partners and developing proposals to raise funds to ensure sustainability and growth of program activities within Mozambique.
Requirements
Masters Degree in International Education, Developmental Psychology, or Cultural Anthropology with ECD focus
Minimum of three years experience in early childhood development
Fluency in Portuguese and English oral and written language skills
Strong understanding of holistic child development and the ways children learn, including early-literacy methodologies
Proven experience in managing teams and working well in partnership / consortia
Solid understanding of educational curriculum development and dynamic training methodologies
Strong experience in effectively managing budgets a plus
Experience in monitoring and evaluation systems and the ability to employ development measurement tools to examine impact of services on children, caregivers and community
Experience in strategies that generate community and partner ownership to ensure sustainable results.
Representational and advocacy skills and familiarity with the education policy environment in Mozambique
Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels
