Senior Accountant Job Opportunity at East African Community Somali
Position title : Senior Accountant (1post)
Position Grade : P3
Duty Station : Djibouti
Reporting to : Director Administration and Finance
1. Summary
Under the overall guidance of the Director Administration and Finance , the Senior
Accountant of IGAD shall be responsible for applying accounting principles and
procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial
reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures.
2. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The incumbent shall:
a) compile and analyze financial information to prepare financial statements
including monthly and annual accounts
b) ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with accepted policies
and procedures
c) ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met
d) prepare financial management reports
e) Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close
f) establish and monitor the implementation and maintenance of accounting
control procedures
g) Resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities
h) Prepare continuous management and support of budget and forecast
activities
i) monitor and support taxation issues
j) develop and maintain financial data bases
k) Participate in financial audit preparation and follow up the audit process
l) Maintain accurate and appropriate recording and analysis of revenues and
expenses
m) analyze and advise on financial operations including revenue and expenditure
trends, financial commitments and future revenues
n) analyze financial information to recommend or develop efficient use of
resources and procedures, provide strategic recommendations and maintain
solutions to operational and financial problems
3. Education and Experience
BA degree in Accounting, Finance or any other relevant field
CPA, ACCA or other recognized professional accounting qualification is desirable;
5 years of experience in accounting, management of financial systems and
budgets, financial reporting, financial data analysis, of which 2 years is in a
senior position
knowledge of accepted accounting practices and principles (GAP)
knowledge of applicable laws, codes and regulations
knowledge and experience of Sun system or any related computer applications

5. Duty Station
The position will be based at the IGAD Secretariat in Djibouti with occasional visits to

6. Terms and conditions of Service
This position is EU funded and is a non established position whose contract terms are
limited to the period of support; it may be renewed subject to performance and
extension of the funding. The post offers attractive consolidated remuneration package.
