In Egypt, Shell celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2011. It first entered the country in 1911 to operate two concessions in Gemsa and Hurghada. Today Shell has a number of joint ventures and interests in Egypt where most of its upstream operations are located in the Western Desert.
Responsibilities:
Incumbent is part of a team of some 7 Egyptian G&G staff (seismic interpreters,geologists) who as National staff are formally reporting to the respective National Functional General Manager. Incumbent reports to the NFE Team Leader West who in turn formally reports to the (National) Exploration Manager,but who within the Shell reporting line reports to the (Shell-seconded) Deputy Exploration Manager. Incumbent also maintains working level contact with the Shell Egypt exploration department concerning technical evaluation of prospects in SENV’s Western Desert Exploration Licences.
Bapetcos production during 2011 exceeded 100,000 boepd of which some 35,000 bpd oil/condensate. The rig count of 6 rigs ensures high operational activity will continue over the next few years. Exploration activities (SENV and Bapetco combined) include the drilling of some 8-10 wells. In addition,subsurface evaluation support will be provided to the Development function for some 40+ appraisal and development wells.
Requirements:
The position requires general exploration/technical subsurface, business and commercial skills. The incumbent should possess a creative and open mind, with a flexible attitude towards the requirements of the job and striving to maintain business focus. The incumbent will be leading technical projects and must have good project management skills, be result oriented and have an affinity to working in a culturally sensitive environment. Good coaching and mentoring skills are essential.
Specifically:
University degree in Geology or Geophysics with a minimum of 7 years in subsurface evaluation;
Understanding of HSE-critical aspects of subsurface evaluation (e.g. shallow hazards (gas) and pressure prediction);
Demonstrated commitment to staff development;
Effective cross-disciplinary communication and presentation skills;
Personal drive, ability to cope with peak work-loads under tight deadlines, self-motivating;
Mentoring experience in a culturally diverse working environment is a bonus;
Good track record in production geology/seismology from prospect identification to field development planning as well as exploration evaluation;
Familiarity with 3D seismic interpretation systems and static subsurface modelling methodologies (GeoSigns / nDI, Petrel are the main seismic interpretation packages);
Good understanding of 3D seismic processing, reservoir geology and prospect volumetric appraisal;
Working knowledge of structural geology and petroleum engineering disciplines (production geology, petrophysics, reservoir engineering) and well engineering.
